Momo, the little swallow, woke up early and watched his parents prepare for their journey. They would leave the next day.
His mother was out of breath on the treadmill. His father had prepared the breakfast table, and even put the rosehip jam they had kept for special occasions on the table. From where he lay, Momo asked: “Daddy, why do we have to leave our house? Do we have to go? Besides, winter hasn’t come yet, maybe it won’t come this year.”
His father laughed at these words: “I understand you Momo, it is difficult to leave, but we have to. Winter comes again every year, you know that. The weather got cold early, it became harder for us to find food. You will also like the new place we’re going to, don’t worry. Have your breakfast now, and gather strength for the long journey tomorrow.”

“For the first time, we will stay at a place that people made for us,” said the grandmother to her husband.
“Yup. It is as good as they told me. I did not expect such a comfortable place. Come on, everybody sleep now, and then we’ll go out and look for something to eat.”
At that moment, another joyful crowing was heard.
“Chirp chirp! Look what I found?” It was Momo’s aunt Titi crying out:
“There’s enough food and water here for all of us for a few days.”
They drank and ate with cheerful chirping. Everyone liked this new house very much, and the whole family enjoyed themselves.

After a while, the boy and his grandfather again stuck their heads out through the open window. This time they looked a little unhappy.
“My father says that the building will be demolished, an apartment will be built in its place. Then this little house, the bird palace, will be gone, as well.”
“Don’t worry son, do you think will I ever demolish this place? No, no. If necessary, I will go and talk to the mayor.”
“What if they don’t listen to you?”
“They’ll listen. Don’t worry, the birds will always keep coming. How happy they are in their new home, they are already singing. Look at their floppy walks, their anxious eyes, their chubby faces, how cute they are. Aaa… Look, a young man passing by stopped, taking pictures. He smiles at us as well, wave if you want.”
Doruk smiled at the camera.
“Grandpa, he took us too.”
“No worry. He is one of the tourists who come to visit the city. This house only attracts their attention. Let’s go inside now.”
